For the Art Nova Sector at Art Basel Miami Beach 2009, Galerie Chez Valentin will present works by Pierre Ardouvin and David Renggli. Their works have often been described as humorous, absurd, whimisical, slapstick, but never glib. It is irony that comes across which create an inner tension in each individual work. But it is the irony in the sense of dissimulation, of disguising the artist self in favor of the new derivation coming from the deeper social conscience.
Pierre Ardouvin is interested in the status of « things », but without always giving them this « coefficient of art » as Duchamp called it. David Renggli on the other hand, uses everyday items in order to depict an enraptured soul in every « something », no matter how banal.
